The KDE spin is my favourite. It is the only one that enables me to plug and unplug monitors and projectors without fail.

Xfce user here. Quite light and can be customized to a high degree. Can also mix and match components (to an extent).

    F23 - e16/Mate

As always, the e16 GUI is so smashingly fast and smooth, it's almost pre-cognitive. <....>

As per my signature, MATE. It's like a nice worn in pair of comfy shoes. MATE does exactly what I need of it and can also be easily customised, xfce is a close second.

    F23, Cinnamon Spin.

Really nice and also works well on my old laptop which has lower specs and less RAM.

F23 + Mate. Everything works and looks professionally good.

    I tried a few others:

KDE - shiny monstrosity from which I don't need 90%

Gnome 3 - why would I want dumbed down mobile interface on my desktop? And pay for that "privilege" with a lot of resources?

XFCE - almost as good as Mate, but lacks some stuff and visual appeal.

Cinnamon - little buggy, especially with my dual monitors setup. When everything is fixed it will be my choice equal to Mate.

Re: what is your favorite fedora flavor and why?

I actually have two favourites. Gnome with some special tweaks (Taskbar extension makes Gnome usable, JamesLody's weather APP, Caffeine (to prevent screen lockup when running a long task, the unmount extension, and the clipboard stack extension). These extensions do not take up screen space, but absolutely make Gnome usable. Nautilus, with every restructuring makes Gnome more undesirable. Ergo, I use Thunar.

My tied for first place favourite is Korora's xfce. it is clean, fast, and does what we expect from an interface. A real delight to use.

If I was to choose a third interface I very much appreciate, it would be the Gnome 2 one. Nautilus was just right for G2, the G2 menus were just right, the G2 dash and frequent/all were ok, and it followed the KISS principal.

I will not be switching to Wayland until I can run gparted from the terminal (X11) command line. If gparted was enhanced to allow me to select the drives I want to always appear, then I would likely set my interface to Wayland.

I now run Fedora in a Virtual Box. LXDE is the preferred interface. Fast and usable. My needs are simple when it comes to a user interface and 'bling bling' is not a criteria for my UI. KDE fit me until they went to 4.0, that's when I started looking around. LXDE just seemed to fit. Glad we have 'choices' in Linux land unlike the M$ world of like it or lump it.

Re: what is your favorite fedora flavor and why?

Well, I used Gnome from the pre-release versions way back (late 90's) up until the death of Gnome with the release of Gnome 3.

I tried several desktop environments when Gnome 3 was released, and have settled on Xfce since it suits my needs better than the others.

Re: what is your favorite fedora flavor and why?

I have grown to like Korora Mate/Compiz.

Korora because RPMFusion is already installed.
(even still fits nicely on a small by today's standards thumb drive)

Mate/Compiz because on my servers, I can leave the WM as marco for a nice light weight and usable interface and on my desktop I can dconf the WM to compiz for outrageously over the top eye candy.

Xfce since many years and also my favourite Fedora-spin. Overall very stable, highly customizable and blazing fast. The possibility to add custom actions to Thunar very easily is a very nice & usable feature.

I like Korora XFCE as my second favourite Remix. I just love the Remixes. The creators do all the grunt work for us, providing rpmfusion, and other repositories to which they have included some great software The F23 Korara Gnome and the F23 Chapeau Gnome remixes are tied as my two favourites.

Re: what is your favorite fedora flavor and why?

I used to like KDE, but with the release of the Plasma desktop I am finding it a little too bloated for me. I tried F23 Mate Compiz spin and really like it. Clean desktop environment that can be configured to be lean. Out of curiosity I tried F23 Cinnamon on another machine and think they did a really nice job. While it is certainly not as light as Mate, it still provides kind of a traditional user experience.

Re: what is your favorite fedora flavor and why?

Who besides me runs GNOME with the "Taskbar" extension? Gnome with this extension is just great. That extension makes Gnome a better interface than Gnome alone.

And to not generate flames and wars, I prefer to use Gnome/Taskbar more than I do xfce or mate. In fact, takes me 60 seconds to get used to Mate (when I launch it versus xfce).

Is there anyone else who is using the "Taskbar" extension?
